JPG has no transparency, plan for it
A JPG is always a solid rectangle, so the icon keeps the background colour of your image. That looks fine on a white browser tab and odd on a dark one.
If your logo needs a see-through background, export it as PNG or SVG first and use the PNG to ICO or SVG to ICO converter instead.
Small sizes need simple shapes
At 16 px you have 256 pixels to work with. Fine detail and thin text in a photo turn to mush. A bold mark, or the first letter of your product, reads far better than a full logo.

How do I convert a JPG to an ICO file?
Drop the JPG into the converter above, choose the icon sizes, and click Download. The tool draws the image at each size and packs them into one .ico file.
Will the ICO have a transparent background?
Not from a JPG, because JPG has no transparency. The icon keeps whatever background your photo has. Start from a PNG or SVG if you need a transparent icon.
Can I use the ICO as a website favicon?
Yes. Save it as favicon.ico at the root of your site. Browsers request /favicon.ico automatically, and you can also link it in the head with a link rel="icon" tag.
Is there a file size limit?
No hard limit. The image is processed in your browser, so very large photos only take a moment longer to decode.
