- 2
Switch on international cards or currency conversion if they apply, and adjust the rates for your country.
- 3
Read the fee, the payout and the monthly totals, and copy any number.
How Stripe card fees add up
A card fee has two parts: a percentage of the charge and a fixed amount per successful payment. On top of that, Stripe lists extra percentages for cards issued in another country and for charges that need currency conversion. They stack, so an international card in a different currency costs noticeably more than a domestic one.
The fixed part is why small payments hurt. On a $1 charge, 30 cents is 30% before the percentage even starts. That's worth knowing before you price a cheap monthly plan.
Charging so you receive an exact amount
To net a set amount, add the fixed fee and divide by one minus the rate: (amount + fixed) / (1 - rate). At 2.9% + 30c, receiving $100 means charging $103.30.
Because fees are rounded to the cent, the formula can be a cent off. The calculator checks its answer against the real fee and returns the smallest price that still nets your target.
Questions, answered.
How much does Stripe charge per transaction?
The calculator starts from 2.9% + 30c per successful card charge, Stripe's standard US online rate when this page was written. Other countries, card types and negotiated plans differ, so check stripe.com/pricing and type your own rates in.
How do I calculate what to charge to receive a set amount?
Switch to "I want to receive" and type the amount. The formula is (amount + fixed fee) / (1 - percentage), then rounded up to the cent and checked against the actual fee, so the payout is never short.
Does Stripe charge more for international cards?
Stripe lists an extra percentage for cards issued outside your country and another for currency conversion. The defaults here are 1.5% and 1%. Turn on the switches that apply and edit the numbers if your pricing page says otherwise.
Are Stripe fees the same in every country?
No. The percentage and the fixed fee depend on where your Stripe account is and the currency you charge in. Pick your currency, then copy the rates from your country's pricing page into the fields above.
Is this an official Stripe tool?
No. It's an independent calculator that does the arithmetic from the rates you give it. Stripe's own dashboard and pricing page are the final word on what you're charged.
