# Fastest Template

One command. That's the gap between "nothing" and "a running full-stack app."

**Set up your machine first**

This page assumes Node 20+, pnpm 12+, and Docker are already working. If they are not, start with
[Installation](/docs/getting-started/installation) and come back.

## Create and run

```bash
npx @hype-stack/cli create my-app
cd my-app
pnpm dev
```

When `create` asks whether to start Docker and run migrations, say yes. It installs dependencies, copies the `.env`
files, boots Postgres, Valkey, and RustFS, creates the tables, and makes the first commit. Open `http://localhost:4200`.
You have the free local app running. Each of those steps is explained in
[Installation](/docs/getting-started/installation).

### Verify

- Frontend loads at `http://localhost:4200`
- Backend answers at `http://localhost:3000/ping`
- `pnpm typecheck` passes from the repo root

## What just happened

The CLI scaffolded a monorepo with a backend, a frontend, an admin app, an Expo mobile app, and a browser extension, and
wired up Docker for Postgres, Valkey, and object storage. The `pnpm dev` command starts the servers through Nx, with hot
reload on every side.

## Start from a finished app instead

`create` gives you the bare starter. If you would rather begin from something that already looks like a product, install
a template. Run it in an empty directory and it scaffolds the project first:

```bash
npx @hype-stack/cli template
```

Templates bring a full skin, extra pages, and the packs that app needs. See [Add a Template](/docs/cli/add-template) for
what each one includes.

Or pick packs yourself. This gives you the free auth starter and the free layout, and `compose` scaffolds the project
when there is none:

```bash
npx @hype-stack/cli compose --packs starter-auth-betterauth,layout-basic
```

## Desktop too

Want the Electron desktop app instead?

```bash
pnpm --filter @hype-stack/frontend start:app
```

Same codebase, native window. Hot reload works here too.
